The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which are responsible for managing the complex, has decided to update the entire lighting system of the World Trade Center in order to reduce its CO2 emissions and its energy consumption.

In this sense, more than 13,000 lighting points located between its buildings and common areas will be replaced by energy efficient LED lighting, whose effectiveness is expected to be measured in the savings of 715,000 dollars during the first year, which will be repeated over the next 10 years.

The electricity consumption is expected to be reduced by 6.4 million kilowatt-hoursand the emission of gases by 4,700 tons per year.

Constellation will bring the light

The Company Constellation, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation based in Baltimore, is responsible for there form that is part of the Port Authority’s Energy Savings Performance Guarantee Program. The program provides resources to develop and implement energy-saving opportunities.

The project that has already begun to take place and is expected to be finished by the end of 2019, it consists of an investment of 7.9 million dollars and includes the update of the Vehicle Security Center, the Central Chiller plant, the fare and platform area PATH, the Transportation Hub and common areas.

In addition, the ascending illumination of the Oculus (Transportation Hub) will be replaced by new specific lights in blue, red, and green that will be controlled by the staff through a panel.
