Known for its dynamic and bold skyline, New York continues to elevate its architectural game with the completion of five skyscrapers. These projects not only redefine the city’s skyline but also introduce cutting-edge materials and state-of-the-art technologies. 

Let’s take a look at the ones that stand out the most, evaluating their materials, height, and the complexity of their work.   

1. Olympia Dumbo, industrial inspiration in Brooklyn 

Located next to the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo, the Olympia Dumbo residential tower, designed by Hill West Architects, rises 122 meters with 33 stories. Its wedge-shaped form and fan-shaped base reflect Dumbo’s industrial heritage. 

Coated with precast concrete panels and slender windows, the tower offers balconies on each floor, creating an offset pattern that captures the view. With 76 apartments ranging from one-bedroom to five-bedroom models, Olympia Dumbo redefines elegance in Brooklyn, highlighted by a private tennis court, bowling alley, and pet spa. 

2. 425 Park Avenue, avant-garde style on the mythical avenue 

British firm Foster + Partners has completed the 425 Park Avenue skyscraper, the “first full-block office building” built on Park Avenue in more than 50 years. At 47 stories, this 262.1-meter-tall landmark redefines office design by incorporating double-height landscaped terraces and an external structure that allows for column-free interior spaces. 

Designed to celebrate the historic context, the building features a stepped profile and offers a permeable and healthy work environment. 

3. The Spiral, a skyscraper with a Ziggurat silhouette 

BIG, the architectural firm led by Bjarke Ingels, has completed The Spiral, its first super-tower and commercial skyscraper in New York. At 314 meters tall and 66 stories, it stands out for its stepped terraces that frame the building, creating a visual link to the High Line. 

The tower ensures that each floor opens to the outdoors, forming hanging gardens and atriums that connect the workspaces. The facade, made of steel and landscaped terraces, makes The Spiral an ascending green landmark on the city’s skyline. 

4. Brooklyn Tower, black and bronze elegance 

Designed by SHoP Architects, the 93-story, 325-meter-tall Brooklyn Tower stands out against the Brooklyn skyline. The black and bronze stainless-steel façade creates a stepped appearance, while bronze and copper pillars provide definition. 

Its wider base, adapted to the winds of Brooklyn, narrows down toward the top. With more than 500 residences and a basketball court on one of the wind floors, Brooklyn Tower redefines the skyline of this iconic Big Apple neighborhood. 

5. Manhattan West  

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) has completed the final phase of Manhattan West with the office tower Two Manhattan West. Although it does not reach the technical classification of a super tower, at 285 meters tall, it complements its twin, One Manhattan West, which is a super tower. 

Both towers act as gateways to the development and express a monolithic simplicity with curved corners and angled profiles. This landmark marks the completion of the Manhattan West project, a decades-long transformation of Manhattan’s west side.
