The Boatyard Hotel is an impressive project by the architectural firms GoA, and WJ Studio that offers a unique and different accommodation experience. This innovative construction, in the Yangtze River Delta, is an excellent example of how green and integrated green development can be done in harmony with nature and the cultural environment. 

Its structure features a series of vaulted ceilings of different heights that resemble ships parked at the site’s docks, creating a ship’s cabin-like experience for visitors. These elevated concrete ceilings and glass windows mean that guests can have well-ventilated rooms in summer and enjoy the changing view of the landscape in front of the hotel. 

This small hotel has a spacious lobby, a reception, and 12 rooms: six on the first floor, and six additional rooms on the second floor under a vaulted ceiling. The palette of materials of all the rooms includes wood, glass, and natural stones, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere for visitors. 

Rural charm and natural splendor  

The Boatyard Hotel combines village charm with natural splendor, providing guests with a quiet retreat from the city and the opportunity to connect with nature. In this regard, GoA architects say that their idea with this project was to “generate a living city” and create an unprecedented special experience for the visiting public to relate to the village where it’s located, but without the hustle, and activity of the city. 

GOA also explains that this construction is part of a rural revitalization plan that promotes cultural, tourism, and agricultural industries. The Yangtze River Delta region has been chosen as the main pilot area for green, and integrated ecological development. In this context, the hotel is a remarkable example of Qushui Shanwan’s rural revitalization. 

The Boatyard Hotel, characterized by a soft yellow glow, is an architectural masterpiece that invites guests to enjoy a relaxing stay. One of its highlights is the first-floor dining room, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake. 

But what makes this area of the hotel special is that it is partially submerged at 0.3 m below the surface of the water. This allows diners to share memories, and experiences with the people residing in the nearby boathouses.
