A quick guide to cleaning your microwave with natural products

Date

The microwave is an important appliance in modern kitchens because it allows us to heat food in a matter of seconds, which saves time and energy. However, constant use of the microwave often leads to the accumulation of dirt, splashes, and bad odors on the inside.

Regular cleaning is crucial to keep the appliance clean and working properly. With that in mind, it is best to use natural products, such as lemon, vinegar, and baking soda, instead of harsh chemicals.

Below, is a quick guide to clean your microwave oven effectively and safely with them.

Cleaning your microwave will save you money

Aside from preventing illnesses due to the bacteria generated by the residues left behind, regular cleaning of your microwave oven is necessary for several reasons:

  • Hygiene: The accumulation of food debris in the microwave can become a breeding ground for bacteria and germs. Keeping it clean is critical to ensure your food is heated safely.
  • Efficiency: A clean microwave operates more efficiently and heats food evenly. If the appliance is dirty, you may notice hot or cold areas in your food.
  • Durability: Regularly cleaning your microwave can extend its life by preventing wear and corrosion caused by residue buildup.

How do I clean it?

There are several natural and effective methods to clean your microwave. Here are three of them:

1. Lemon

Lemon is not only great for removing dirt, but it also leaves a fresh citrus scent in your microwave.

Steps:

  • Cut a lemon into small pieces and place it in a bowl with 300 ml of water.
  • Heat the mixture in the microwave for 5 minutes.
  • After the time has elapsed, use a cloth to wipe the inside of the microwave. Dirt should be easily removed.

2. Vinegar

White vinegar is an effective and economical natural cleaning product that helps remove grease and filth from your microwave.

Steps:

  • Disassemble the removable parts of the microwave and clean them with water and detergent.
  • Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with water in a bowl and place it in the microwave.
  • Heat it for 5 minutes so that the vinegar vapor loosens the dirt.
  • Carefully (as it will be hot), use a cloth to clean the inside of the appliance.
  • Give a second wipe with a damp cloth to remove any vinegar residue.

3. Baking soda

Baking soda is an excellent cleaning agent that also helps eliminate unpleasant odors.

Steps:

  • Wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp sponge, applying baking soda to the most difficult areas.
  • Another option is to boil a cup of water with a tablespoon of baking soda. Then, spread this mixture directly in the microwave and use a cloth to remove the dirt.

Important: Do not combine baking soda with other cleaning products, as this may result in unwanted reactions.

Last, but not least

  • Perform a thorough cleaning of the microwave at least two or three times a month.
  • For daily maintenance, wipe the interior with paper towels or a damp cloth after each use to facilitate future cleaning.

Regular cleaning of your microwave with natural products is not only essential to keep it hygienic, efficient, and durable, but it is also a way to have an environmentally friendly kitchen.
