The architectural perspective of the Saudi bridge Treyam Hotel

Date

Saudi development Neom has unveiled the Treyam Hotel, a stunning resort suspended over a lagoon on the Gulf of Aqaba. Designed by U.S. firm Mark Foster Gage Architects, the 250-room hotel is integrated within a 450-meter-long bridge, with glass-bottomed rooms topped by an infinity pool.

The Treyam will be built in the Gulf of Aqaba, about 10 kilometers north of The Line development in northwestern Saudi Arabia. The idea behind its design is to offer a different perspective of the surrounding landscape, lagoon, and sea. “Treyam is a luxury hotel that rises above the landscape, offering a new perspective on how architecture relates to nature,” explained Mark Foster Gage, founder of the architectural firm.

Design and construction details

The hotel is characterized by its location, allowing guests a unique elevated view of the Gulf of Aqaba. Each room features partial glass floors and ceilings, providing a direct connection to both the underwater ecosystem and breathtaking views of the starry sky.

“You’re literally floating above an entire underwater ecosystem and looking at the vastness and beauty of the natural world,” adds Gage.

Innovations and technology

The construction of the Treyam involves the use of high-tech materials and innovative techniques. The glass and steel structure are designed to withstand the extreme environmental conditions of the desert and the sea.

The infinity pool, which spans along the 450 meters of the bridge, is one of the highlights and offers an unparalleled luxury experience.

Investment and dimensions

The Treyam has a significant investment in the Neom project, which is one of the largest and most controversial developments in the world. The hotel is 450 meters long and houses 250 rooms, making it one of the most ambitious hotel structures in the region.

This project is part of a series of resorts announced by Neom for the Gulf of Aqaba coast, including a “secret garden” spa, an exclusive sanctuary resort, and an inverted skyscraper called Aquellum.

The Treyam redefines the concept of a luxury resort and also marks a milestone in how architecture can merge with nature to offer unique experiences. This bridge hotel is not only a testament to architectural creativity and technological innovation but also a reminder of the complexities and controversies that can arise in projects of such magnitude.
