On the second week of May 2016 Thermador had a participation in the House Beautiful’s 9th annual Kitchen of the Year. In this opportunity a house was redecorated, located in Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia, and a family will be moving in soon.
According to the official Blog of Thermador, Matthew Quinn, leader of Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath Studio and author of Quintessential Kitchens by Matthew Quinn: Volume One, was in charge of the design. He said that the design always begins with a first step, which is to know the client; in this case the homeowner is a new mom of twin eight-month-old boys. Besides, she is a very independent and busy professional.
How the ideal design for a client is achieved
Quinn confesses that the best way to know a client’s personal style is by looking at their closet, with their permission, of course. Through their closet you can get information about favorite colors, formality level, and how much risk they are willing to take. Jewelry items are also other elements to take into consideration when you want to know a client’s taste.
In this specific case, Quinn decided to use a gray palette with pops of color and some organic shapes to balance the linearity. It is like a combination of different styles that he could translate in a successful way. “I designed the kitchen to be crisp, like a Chanel suit, but also relaxed and fun like the homeowner”, Quinn confesses.
The homeowner really wanted finishes that are easy to clean and maintain, especially in the kitchen, for that we selected a tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances and incorporated pops of color in accessories. “There is also a great combination of mixed metals like stainless steel, brass and polished nickel”, the designer in charge said and also assured that there is not a concrete style in this creation, but an eclectic mix of different tendencies.
Thermador, the main character of this kitchen
According to Quinn, this is the first residential kitchen that includes the new Thermador 60”Pro Grand® Range, which has a double griddle, a steam, a convection oven and a warming drawer. “It is truly the star of the home”, the designer confessed about Thermador kitchen.
For refrigeration a custom paneled Thermador 30” built-in refrigerator was included and an 18” freezer. The pantry has a new system for making coffee, a microwave, and another 24” double refrigerator drawer plus a special refrigerator for wines of the same size, which are both installed under the counter.
