Ceramic glass cooktops are eye-catching and usually the favorite of home chefs who also love design. They are like mirrors that add a touch of elegance to our kitchens, not to mention that working on them is a real pleasure.
However, caring for them is another topic, especially if we want to keep them looking brand-new.
Although continuous use can make them look worn out and dull, recovering their aesthetic is easy. The key is to know certain tricks and use products that are not too abrasive.
These same tricks can also be used if you have an induction cooktop since both have a glass surface. Don’t worry if you have burnt or stuck stains, you’ll restore their original shine with the following tips.
A single warning
The first thing to avoid at all costs is to use any cleaning tool that could scratch the ceramic glass cooktop, as the damage to its surface can be irreversible. So, our first piece of advice comes in the form of a warning.
Don’t use the scraper unless it’s necessary. If you have exhausted all the tricks we give you here and your kitchen is still dull or stained, then and only then, you can resort to this tool.
But that won’t be necessary if you use specific products for this type of surface and the homemade tips that we give you here. Remember: the glass of these kitchens is delicate and certain chemicals will make it lose its shine.
How to clean a ceramic glass cooktop
The first thing to keep in mind is that the longer you wait to clean the cooktop, the more difficult it will be to do so. So, it is always advisable to clean the surface of your cooktop after cooking to make stain removal easier.
This part of the process requires some patience because, although you should clean the cooktop ASAP, you must wait until the surface is cold. Oddly enough, stains and dirt will come out more quickly if the appliance is cold.
The step-by-step process is as follows:
- Do a superficial cleaning with an absorbent cloth, removing any food residues that may’ve fallen on the surface. Once this is done, you will be able to verify where the stains are or the areas that need more care.
- Apply the product of your choice on the stained surface; extend it and let it work for a few minutes.
- Remove the product with a damp absorbent cloth and check if all the dirt was removed.
- Dry the surface to provide a shiny finish.
- If the ceramic glass is very dirty and was not completely clean with this process, use the scraper. Don’t press too hard against the surface and do it at an angle, not straight. Never use aluminum sponges or knives to replace the scraper.
Homemade tricks to add shine to your cooktop
There are homemade recipes that are not only easy to prepare and can bring back the shine to your cooktop but also aren’t harsh enough to ruin the surface. If the surface is burned, mix two tablespoons of baking soda, a little vinegar, and water to form a paste.
Spread this paste on the burn and leave it on for a few minutes. This recipe also works if you replace the vinegar with a few drops of lemon juice.
Finally, we recommend the use of ice as an extreme measure. Rub the stain with an ice cube for one minute and then scrape it off. The ice will harden the stain and make it easier to remove.
And as always, whenever you splash the cooktop while you’re cooking, remove the stain immediately with a cloth or paper towel. This is the most effective remedy for it.
