The city of New York is always at the forefront of the arts, currently sheltering the most promising architects of 2019. Their work combines technology, social purpose, and a profound artistic value that make them stand out worldwide.
These architectural works will add more interest to the Big Apple that is already interesting enough for having wonderful museums and a whole space dedicated to theatre. Following, are three of the studios that are in the spotlight due to their ongoing projects.
New Practice Studio, paying attention to details
Manhattan begins to be filled up with small and cozy places that take advantage of those spaces that used to go unnoticed and now, they offer residents and strangers, new opportunities for fun, leisure, and excellent gastronomy. Behind these new findings is a study founded by NianlaiZhong, Sidong Lang, and Tai-Li Lee, which, in collaboration with mostly Asian artists, aims at designing multiple interior design projects related to the Chinese community.
These interesting places put the accent on the minimum details, which has helped them earn several awards. In fact, the New Practice Studio was the winner of the Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design Awards with the Hunan Slurp project in Manhattan, a restaurant where each dish is a work of art.
TheVeryMany, as big as the space
The studio founded by architect Marc Fornes stands out by the inclusion of the technology and digital printing in its designs. Their projects are aimed at offering the user an avant-garde experience where the limits of space are increasingly blurred, and all kinds of shapes and textures can be explored. The combination of architecture -structures shaped as thin and twisted shells- with works of art produced by artists, are their signature.
One of their most important works, is the Marquise. This ultra-thin, lightweight aluminum pavilion fills with color and provides a spatial appearance to the entrance of the Westside Natatorium at El Paso, Texas.
Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, with plenty to give
Certainly, the studio that generates more expectations for 2019 in the Big Apple, is DS+R. Their project “The Shed” at the Hudson Yards Development, will be the new Center for the Arts of the city that will open its doors to the public this fall.
This New York studio has designed this new Center of Arts in the Big Apple with a telescopic cover of 120 feet high, which will allow the building to expand or contract according to the artistic works that are presented in it. In addition to this, the studio also works in a residential skyscraper and in the expansion of the MoMa, quite the project!
So, what used to be the city of advertisers and artists, seems to add a new breed now: architects, who are not only inspired by its luxurious environment, but also seek to transform New York into the mecca of dream-makers of concrete and metal.
